Four individuals – including two UC Santa Barbara students and two alleged attackers – were taken to an area hospital following a shooting and assault in Isla Vista last night. The incident – which took place around 7:30 p.m. Monday evening on Sabado Tarde Road – was just minutes from the UCSB campus. School officials implemented a lockdown until 9:30 p.m.

According to authorities, an altercation involving the four individuals took place inside an Isla Vista apartment. Two students were ultimately taken to the hospital for gunshot wounds. One of the suspects reportedly fled the scene and later checked himself into an area hospital Tuesday morning. Investigators believe his injuries may stem from Monday night’s incident.

Two suspects were arrested on charges for attempted murder, robbery, possession of a stolen firearm, discharge of a firearm, and participation in a criminal street gang. These are incredibly serious violent crime charges that involve the use of a firearm and serious injuries – both of which are considered aggravating factors that lead to enhanced charges and penalties.

In the week leading up to Monday’s incident, authorities reported a string of armed robberies in Isla Vista – including several that occurred in the same apartment complex where the shooting took place. The shooting also occurred nearly a year to the date that 22-year-old Elliot Rodger killed 6 and injured 14 in a terror spree that drew nationwide attention.
